How This New Heat Pump is Genius
How This New Heat Pump is Genius. Try Rocket Money for free: rocketmoney.com/undecided #RocketMoney #personalfinance Where I live in New England in the winter it can get as low as -13 F (-25 C). During summer heatwaves, it can reach over 100 F (40 C). Many of our houses and homes weren’t built for that, and in the United States, we aren’t exactly known for quality insulation. So how do we deal with heating and cooling our homes? Well, some of you may already know I’m crazy about heat pumps, but I came across a local company, called Flooid, that opened my eyes to the potential of cascading heat pumps. The constant refrain that heat pumps can’t work in the cold isn’t true anymore anyway, but this tech takes it to another level.
But what’s a cascading heat pump? And are our homes ready for them?

Sorry but in my view they are a stupid investment. They are an eyesore and can’t be recycled and the design keeps changing so no parts for existing units to repair those that fail etc. That and solar both suck and are a stupid way for us to get power. The sun doesn’t always shine and the wind doesn’t always blow and the folks that like these are billionaires that just want to get richer without a care about the rest of us. We are getting screwed by a bunch of idiots in our government getting rich off of the billionaires that fund this crap by stealing out tax dollars. If they are so great stop all government monies and stop all added moneys for the times when the sun or wind isn’t available and make them stand on their own.

Sometimes advancement isn't some big technical breakthrough. More often it is some other application or combination of use that makes something more economical. In this case the vertical orientation helps the thermal performance since backside heat isn't trapped and it can convect that heat up and away. 1) In the plains states they install snow fence to prevent drifting over highways. Why not vertical solar. 2) In urban area they erect sound attenuating walls along highways that bisect residential areas. Why not face them on the south sides with panels? 3) Backsides of billboards? 4) Privacy fencing

Heat pump technology is fine for certain things like residential Air Conditioning in hot climates when there are no alternatives like evaporative cooling in humid climates or absorption technology which is far to complex and expensive. The problem is electric utility rates are increasing much faster than HP efficiency improvements are being developed. A good, old fashioned Nat Gas fired furnace or boiler for space and water heating just can't be beat. The price of Nat Gas would have to go up 10x before electric heating via heat pump would make economic sense. Also, for the record, CO2 is not a pollutant, its plant food.

Great video and comparison! Thank you. My take-away is that the customer is responsible for being technically adept and involved enough on a regular basis to verify the installation and on-going performance. Otherwise, the installer would not have replaced wires with adequate thicker wires, and would not have fixed software issues with monitoring. On the other hand, once all the kinks are worked out such that the problems drop to negligible, the tax discount and net-metering may not be available.

I think airships will make a comeback if they find some way to deal with strong wind. Maybe huge "tripod" arms that can grab on to the landscape and fight sidewind for example. So they become huge lighter than air walkers.

At our home in Asheville NC we needed to replace the water heater. I opted for a Rheem heat pump, their top-of-the-line model. After installation we began to have problems with the unit, the controller was misfunctioning. Rheem sent me a new circuit board to replace the faulty one. This cured the control problems, but shortly thereafter the heat pump itself began to struggle to create enough hot water. Apparently an internal coolant line had sprung a leak, allowing the precious gas to escape. In short, the unit was nothing but trouble. Rheem to their credit allowed us a full refund which we used to purchase a conventional electric water heater. We never looked back. What often goes unspoken is that a heat pump is essentially an air conditioner in reverse, with all of the inherent reliability issues. There's no way I want that in my house again.

I'd like to hear the exact same talks about efficiency and system with the valve thrown the other way. Here we worry about air conditioner performance. Heating's just an afterthought for a few days out of the year. Everyone's AC system can always switch over to a heat and everyone has AC here. So rather than a story about boiler replacement I'd want to know about air conditioning efficiency in hot weather. Also I would really like to know how they deal with the air movement and physical size of the device outside. You know where it's pulling in heat or pushing out heat. That was kind of skimmed over in this video. He said a small box but what does that mean? Does he require a large amount of airflow on it? I would assume you have to have either more physical exchange size or more air flow over it because you are still trying to move heat so you need that heat to come across it

Altough European houses are so well built, the EU is putting a lot of pressure on the citizens to improve there homes even more. We are pushed to rip out double glassed windows, replace (almost new!) gas heatings by heat pumps, install photovoltaic systems, renew roofs and insulate the fronts even more. Regarding the enormous energy costs and the actual finanancial inflation this is a burden which most of us cannot bear. So this is the other extreme compared to the situation in the US. It seems the EU wants to save the world on its own. But to the true reason is the money - climate protection is a huge business here.

My stove is electric and there aren't any gas lines in my area, so I'd consider induction. However, there I also have a 3 burner propane camp stove that I will use indoors for cooking in my round bottom wok or for large meal preps, because I only have one large burner and can't cook on two 12in cast iron pans at once. There are situations where an open flame is just better. Another issue is that induction stoves will absolutely warp and ruin carbon steel or enameled steel pots and pans. Though not a problem for the average American home cook, because cast iron has been long favored over carbon steel here. However, in the restaurant industry, carbon steel is incredibly popular, so another reason for the slow transition. It can also warp a lot of stainless steel pans, especially some of the premium type pans with layered metals can sometimes delaminate on induction. You can't even use copper pans, which are not in common use, but serious enthusiasts or people with heirloom copper cookware are obviously not going to make the switch. Gas is here to stay for a while, but if they can improve the cost, traditional electric and ceramic stoves can be phased out because they all-around suck, and nobody needs to be cooking on thin teflon-coated aluminum pans anyway.

There is nothing clean about this. The pollution created by manufacturing is immense. None of this can be recycled. Altogether coal is far more economical......not to mention nuclear. With a depreciation accelerating after the 7th year, a coal plant is far more efficient with a 70 year depreciation schedule. It is true China has refused to use scrubbers on the plant exhaust, and this has been a problem.

Here in scandinavia we have been using the heat pumps for years and they are able to deal with -20 degrees no problem but we have good isolation. They use a de-ice program if there is ice buildup on them (bacikly it turns into an ac for a couple of sec so the ice on the pipes melt/fall of) The point: I dont really see a big enough gain in lower temps where the price of a dubble loop wil make sense for the extra price the compaired to the electrisity saved🤔 I am more interested in the new gassewe are going to start to use i think it was propane🤔 I think this will make a good difference without making the systems more expencive actually itll make it even cheaper cause the gas they use now is quite expencive
